I became interested in accountancy after completing work experience at a small accountancy firm whilst at school. I studied accountancy and economics at University and knew from my accounting studies that accountancy was the profession I wanted to work in. From speaking to Chartered Accountants, I discovered the many different career paths and opportunities that are available to a CA.
The environment in which ICAS teaches provides a lot of support from both peers, colleagues and the ICAS tutors. The training and support offered from ICAS and my training firm was invaluable while studying. The qualification also provides a good bridge between studying at University and working life.
Once you are qualified there are a vast amount of opportunities to work across different industries and abroad as the qualification is very well respected and recognised worldwide. It’s incredible how much I learned during my training and how I have taken this with me through my career so far.
I now work in a small practice and as a manager, I am involved with the day-to-day running of the firm which includes managing staff, planning workloads and finding new business for the firm.
